Introductory note

Dear Cinephiles,

The 4th History Film Festival is standing before you, again, with many interesting movies and special programmes which you will certainly enjoy.

There are 21 films in the official selection of the 4th edition of History Film Festival (selected among 134 submitted films from 37 countries). Their topics and stories will impress us deeply and expand our knowledge of famous or unknown events and people. Last year’s successful and utterly emotional screening in the company of our vision and hearing impaired co-citizens was also inspirational, so this year we have even adapted three films for the ‘’Inclusive Cinema’’ which we can all take pleasure in.

We have joined Rijeka 2020 – European Capital of Culture with programme ‘’RI-thinking History’’ which includes a variety of engaging contents.

This year the world is celebrating the 100th birthday of Federico Fellini, one of the most influential film authors of all time. As part of our festival, we have prepared an exclusive programme which will shed light upon the creative and personal life of the cinema genius. We thank the Consulate General of Italy in Rijeka, Italian Cultural Institute in Zagreb, Embassy of Italy in Zagreb, Cineteca Bologna and Emilia Romagna Region for helping us create this programme.

In 2020 Croatian cinematography lost one of its greats, Vatroslav Mimica to whom we have dedicated one of the special programmes and associated it with the 60th anniversary of Zagreb Film and the famous Zagreb School of Animated Films. Museum of Contemporary Art – Zagreb and Zagreb Film enabled us to introduce you to the highlights of Croatian animation through a great multimedia exhibition titled "Little Chronicle - Classics of the Zagreb School of Cartoon Film".

I especially emphasize the premiere of Vanja Vinković’s series ‘’Fiume Black-Red Rijeka’’ which portrays and breaks down turbulent events in the 20th century Rijeka.

I have no doubt that the presentation entitled ‘’Tito On the Screen’’ by two acknowledged film experts, Daniel Rafaelić and Dejan Dabić, will draw special attention. Watching rare and exclusive archival footage of the controversial leader provided by Filmske novosti from Belgrade will be an exceptional treat.
Promotion of a luxurious monograph about Milena Dravić, one of the greatest ex-Yugoslavian actresses of all time, presentes by its author Anita Panić, will bring a breath of nostalgia.
