Kortil Gallery has been operating as an exhibition space of the City of Rijeka since 1997, and since 2019 it has been part of the newly established public institution in culture, the Croatian Cultural Center in Sušak.
Through its mission, Kortil defined itself as "a gallery that feels and recognizes contemporary art as a means of dynamic and open communication between artwork, artists, Rijeka audiences and the contemporary environment, and develops as a forum that builds and deepens these relationships."
Following the previous activities and experiences, Kortil Gallery continues to exhibit art of the 20th and 21st century because it recognizes its purpose in presenting contemporary productions in the field of visual arts through individual, group or thematically designed exhibition programs, not limited to certain styles and aesthetics.
The exhibition program is open to contemporary domestic and foreign artists, applied art, to exhibit authorial personalities that marked the art of the 20th century, but also for young authors who are just entering the art scene.
