Welcome to HFF

Dear Cinephiles and Film Lovers!

The fifth edition of the History Film Festival is upon us, still the only festival in the world that exclusively screens and values historical documentary films. We received 123 films from 40 countries in the competition category, and I have selected 23 films that will compete for the festival awards. Decisions on this will be made by an international jury...

Opened Submissions for the 7th History Film Festival

Directors, producers, distributors and other authorized bodies are invited to submit their documentary films to the 7th HISTORY FILM FESTIVAL - International Historical Documentary Film Festival, which will be held from September 12 to 16, 2023 in Rijeka, Croatia. Submissions are made through FilmFreeway at the link: https://filmfreeway.com/HistoryFilmFestival.

The History Film Festival bases its film program on socially engaged films that provide a critical overview of topics of wider social significance. All these films talk about previously unknown details from past events and the lives of famous historical figures or tell about some well-known event through the intimate stories of "little" people. The films shown at the History Film Festival offer views of certain events or historical figures from different perspectives, and by shedding light on the past, they make the modern world, current events and different cultures more understandable and approachable.

Documentary films can be submitted, regardless of the year of production, that talk about people, events and ideas that changed the world we live in today.

Applications are open until April 30.
