SUMMARY

I WANT MY COUNTRY BACK takes us through the last decades of Afghan history, to understand the nation’s journey from a golden era to the hell of war. To tell this story, the film relies on an unprecedented selection of archive footage and on the intimate testimonies of six female protagonists from different generations and backgrounds, whose destinies reflect the misery and hopes of many Afghan women.

Director Biography

MARCEL METTELSIEFEN is an Oscar nominated and award winning German documentary director. He traveled to Afghanistan for the first time in 2001 as a war photographer and has been working continuously in the country since. His filmography includes titles such as: "Agony in Aleppo" (Emmy Award 2014) "Children on the Frontline" (Emmy Award 2014; Grierson Award 2014; Peabody Awards 2014; BAFTA 2014), "The Escape" (Rory Peck Award 2016) and "Watani: My Homeland", which was Oscar nominated in 2017.
